Beaird Music Group at Cracker Barrel!

Joey and Rory Cracker Barrel pic.jpg

Something caught my eye at Cracker Barrel this morning - music recorded at Beaird Music Group!  We tracked 10 of the songs on this fantastic CD for Joey + Rory, and I personally recommend that you rush down to Cracker Barrel for a Double Meat Breakfast (my personal favorite) and a heapin' helpin' of Joey + Rory!

Also, Joey + Rory are about to produce a full length movie.  If you'd like to get in on their Kickstarter project, click below:

Can't wait to see Josephine!

We're honored to host the April SongTown Songwriting Retreat here at Beaird Music Group.  Six  different rooms in our studios are filled with co-writers creating new music.  It's always great to see Saturday's featured speaker, Tom Shapiro!

Be sure to check out www.songtown.com. Marty Dodson and Clay Mills have written numerous #1 songs, and they love to share their knowledge of songwriting with others.

We can't wait to hear the new songs being created this weekend!

Jessie Lee Cates

Larry recently received this nice email:

"Don't know if you heard the good news, but you're the co-producer of a #1 single!  Jessie Lee's current single, "Behind Your Back," is the #1 song on the International Country Chart (Ramgatie Top 40).

Congrats -- and thanks, again, for all your help on her Let Your Country Out album; so far, it's yielded three consecutive Top-10s in Europe (two of which, "Scotland" and "Let Your Country Out," actually climbed to the Top-5 on the HotDisc Chart), and a global #1.  Not a bad performance!  ;)

Looking forward to working with you on JLC's next album in the future."

All the best,

Vincent Bonvissuto

Doug Johnson and Nick Sturms

We're honored to have Doug Johnson and Nick Sturms in the studio. Doug is a world-class producer, record executive and songwriter, who along with Kim Williams penned Three Wooden Crosses, a CMA and ACM song of the year.  The Randy Travis recording of this song is my favorite record to have ever played on.  Nick is a fantastic new country artist and songwriter who has opened for acts such as Chris Young, Blake Shelton, Lee Brice, Jerrod Neimann, Justin Moore, and Keith Urban.

Arranging the Hit 2015 workshop!

Marriot Santa Ynez Valley

1:30-3:00 (Delmar Room) Friday, Feb 27, 2015

For 2015, Larry Beaird has charted and extensively researched every #1 song of 2014! (from Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart)  He will present this information in his Arranging the Hit  2015 workshop to show writers the most commercial ways to write and present their songs. This research, combined with years of experience as a producer, arranger and musician, gives Larry insight as to what publishers, producers and artists are looking for in a song.

In his Arranging the Hit workshop, Larry will answer questions like:

  • What do the #1 songs have in common?
  • How does my song compare to the #1s?
  • What are the most common musical arrangements for #1 songs?
  • What is the average length for Intros? Verses? Choruses? Solos?
  • Does my song need a bridge? How many of the #1 songs have a bridge?
  • How quickly does a #1 song get to the first chorus?
  • Do I need a solo section in my song? How many #1 songs have solos?

Larry will also answer questions like:

  • How much money can the songwriters expect to make from a #1 song?
  • Which songs spent the most time at #1? Which writers? Which artists?
  • Which writers had the most #1 songs? Which artists? Which producers?
  • Time permitting, Larry will also give a short, easy lesson on the Nashville Number System.

David Frizzell at Beaird Music Group

It's always great to have music royalty in the studio. I've always loved "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma"!  CMT lists this duet with Shelly West as #6 on their countdown of the 100 Greatest duets.  One of my favorites of David's older brother, Lefty Frizzell is "Long Black Veil".  What a rich musical heritage!  Larry B

Reviews for Arranging the Hit

I am being very sincere when I say, “It was one of the most informative and enlightening music industry related weekends I have spent in my over 40-years in the music business”.  The best way to describe my experience is “WOW, what a great two days”. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me and all of the workshop attendees, as I am already putting what I learned from you to good use in my songwriting efforts.     Michael Knox, Kansas City

Dear Larry, Thank you for the excellent time you spent with us here in Sacramento. Musically it was one of the best times I've ever had; it was very inspirational...as well as educational. Thank you for your patience with us, and the attention that you paid to our songs.  Everyone loved the one-to-one workshops. Everyone here feels that the time spent with you was the most worthwhile experience we've had at any of our seminars.  After being able to sit with you and learn to focus on a song the way you do I have a new tool. Wow, it's a great tool...I've rewritten a couple of dozen songs as if I were still sitting with you, and it has made them all better songs.   Chris Burrows, Sacramento, CA

Hi Larry, thanks for an inspirational, awesome evening in San Diego! I learned so much. Wish we had more people like you out here showing us the ropes of the biz.  Chris Armes, San Diego, CA

Genuinely excellent critiques and helpful suggestions for everyone - young, old, good & not so good. Thank you for your thoughtful efforts on our behalf. I will be taking your advice on cutting out some lines. I will be applying that advice to ‘final’ versions of several songs which I thought were in the can! I love Nashville and hope to be there again within my lifetime. Good to meet you, thanks again.      Clive Kennedy, Los Angeles, CA

It was amazing! Larry Beaird is one stand up quality human being who knows his stuff.  I sure learned a lot. Thank you. Katrina Stahr, Sacramento, CA
